I guess this is my farewell to Tumblr. I’ve been treated so well here, but the time has come for me t move on to bigger and better things. :(
Chris Varela.
Deer ticks are gross, but this band is not. They are actually quite the opposite. They have an album titled “War Elephant” that I am falling in love with. Reminiscent of Band of Horses, Deer Tick is definitely another solid indie-folk band in my books. Really, really good folk music.
There’s actually a documentary about them called Deer Tick: To the City of Sin! coming out in a few weeks. It looks pretty sweet. Here’s the trailer:
As I always say, IFFL!
I did a post on the Old Canes a couple of weeks ago not realizing that they were coming out with a new album! How could I be such a fool? Yesterday-yes, one day ago-the Old Canes released Feral Harmonic, their second full-length album. I’ve only given it a run through once, and I really like what I hear so far. Sounds similar to their other album that came out in 2004 called Early Morning Hymns, which was excellent.
Which reminds me, I stumbled across this homemade, Take Away Show style video of Christopher Crisci, their lead singer, playing a song off of Early Morning Hymns called “Both Falling Bright.” I like it so I thought I’d post it.
Anyway, Feral Harmonic is a really good album. If you like indie-folk music, you have to give it a listen.
I know it sounds crazy, but I have found the band that is a nearly perfect mix of the these two bands.
It’s name? Built To Spill
The more I listen to their brand spankin’ new album “There is No Enemy,” the more I realize how remarkably similar the singer is to both Death Cab AND Modest Mouse. This combo makes for a great singer, and an amazing album.

This album’s an indie standard, so get it. It’s great.
I don’t know how I stumbled across this band, but they are HECKA SICK. A little more upbeat then what I usually listen to, but pretty standard indie pop music nonetheless. Singer goes high, bass and drums are tight, sick tight guitar riffs. A little like Ra Ra Riot and Bishop Allen, both of which are excellent. Nice and Nicely Done is the name of the album I’ve been listening to a lot lately. You’ve gotta check them out for yourself.
Here’s a super artsy pic of them. haha.

Musical Adventures: September’s Tracks part 2 -
HEY. I’ve been going a little old school the past couple weeks, adding a ton of Bob Dylan and The Beatles to the library. Listening to them makes me realize just how influential and important…
Old Canes.. Right up my alley. Indie-folk for life! It’s a shame they only put out one album.

Don’t laugh. I’m listening to Blink-182’s self-titled album right now. It takes me way back.
Ah yes, I distinctly remember sitting back in the lower levels blasting “Violence” on my cd player before A-period started. Good times. Gosh I love this cd.
